Verstappen is close to a race ban due to penalty points received from incidents at previous races. The race in Montreal saw tensions rise between Verstappen and George Russell. A late safety car period reignited the rivalry as Verstappen claimed Russell broke rules under the safety car. Red Bull protested, alleging unsportsmanlike behavior from Russell. Christian Horner confirmed the team had informed the race director about potential provocations towards Verstappen. The protest was made without Verstappen’s knowledge, costing 2,000 Euros per protest.
